El Carnaval de Mazatlán es distinguido por su diversión al ritmo de banda y tambora. Además incluye actividades de carácter cultural. Los paseos Olas Altas y Claussen son el principal escenario del Carnaval; se convierten en un gigantesco centro de reunión y baile junto al Océano Pacífico.
Además de la música tradicional en vivo, el carnaval de Mazatlán tiene coloridos desfiles, fuegos artificiales, arte y literatura, coronaciones de los distintivos rey y reina de esta festividad.
El malecón se transforman durante el desfile principal, celebrado un domingo, cuenta con unas 40 carrozas decoradas con la temática seleccionada y miles de bailarines y músicos.
Durante casi una semana, las calles se visten de fiesta y música que acompaña el espectáculo de los carros alegóricos y disfraces, artistas invitados y cerca de un millón de entusiastas espectadores se juntan a lo largo de todo el malecón, encendiendo la diversión, mientras la procesión va alfombrando un sendero de serpentinas y confetis.
